The Committee for the Art of Italian Opera Singing at the 2026 Monteverdi Opera Festival

On 16 June, as part of the Monteverdi Opera Festival in Cremona, the Committee for the Art of Italian Opera Singing organized the second edition of the seminar The Song of the Divine Claudio: Ancient Roots and New Inspirations.

The morning session was devoted to theoretical discussions, featuring presentations by internationally renowned speakers who explored various aspects of Monteverdi's vocal style and the origins of opera. Their contributions provided participants with a valuable opportunity to engage in a dialogue between musicological research and historically informed performance practice.

In the afternoon, tenor and teacher Alberto Allegrezza, accompanied on the lute by Roberto Cascio, led the workshop The Codified Gesture in the Monteverdi Madrigal. During the session, the young singers of the Monteverdi Academy explored the relationship between gesture, text, and music, while putting into practice some of the interpretative principles that underpin Monteverdi's performance tradition.

The Committee for the Art of Italian Opera Singing wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the Monteverdi Opera Festival, the Fondazione Teatro Ponchielli, and its General Director, Andrea Nocerino, for their support and commitment to this initiative. The Committee also extends its thanks to all the speakers, artists, and participants whose valuable contributions made the event such a success.

Promoting the knowledge and transmission of the art of opera singing means creating opportunities where research, education, and musical practice can meet and enrich one another. This is the mission that the Committee for the Art of Italian Opera Singing continues to pursue with dedication.
